Martin Johnston checks into a comfy ski-lodge in British Columbia.
Location: A 4-½ star hotel at the foot of the base chairlift at Kimberley Alpine Resort in the Kootenay Rockies area of southeastern British Columbia. The resort, located on the Powder Highway, is a few minutes' drive from the town of Kimberley.
Check-in experience: They accommodated my group's early arrival, allowing us to quickly get out on the slopes for a day's skiing.
Room: One bedroom, lounge/dining/full kitchen, pull-out sofa, gas heating, balcony.
Price: Around $132-170 a night.
Food and drink: The hotel has a restaurant, but we ate at the Pedal & Tap in town.
The bed: Comfy, king-sized.
Wifi: Free and seamless.
The view: From my level-4 room I could see snow slopes and forest.
Bathroom: Full-throttle shower-over-bath.
Facilities: Heated swimming pool, outdoor hot tubs, fitness facility.
Would I return? Certainly.
