Whanganui's up coming kids fishing competition is making a splash.
Belinda Chalk, who is office manager at Plumber Dan, has organised a contest for children under 13 and aims to reel in over 200 participants.
The family event will take place on Sunday, April 22 at Whanganui's Town Wharf and will run from 1pm to 3pm.
Ms Chalk, a keen fisher since she was a little girl tagging along on her dad's trips, said she hoped to encourage more Whanganui youngsters to give it a go.
"It will be a fun day out for mum, dad and the kids, plus the thrill of fishing."
She said people were encouraged to bring their own gear but there will be bait available for those that need it.
"We'll have adults hooking up the bait."
Ms Chalk said cleaning up the river was an added bonus.
"If they catch a bit of rubbish they get a prize," Ms Chalk said.
Hunting and Fishing has donated $1000 of prizes and other local businesses have contributed vouchers.
Entry will be available on the day or people can visit Plumber Dan's office, in Victoria Ave, between 8am- 12.30pm to register.
