The third dairy beef sale on December 12 was affected by the weather as at Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa.
Buyers normally at this sale were extremely cautious due to present dry conditions or stayed away, although there was one large buyer from the northern regions who brought 180 weaner bulls.
Top end weaner Friesian bulls averaged $500-$535 the highest price going to J H & D J Instone's top line of Friesians at $535.00. Medium Friesians ranged between $440 and $495.
Top Hereford X Bulls ranged between $500-$565 the highest price going to Wai Hiwi Farm Eketahuna for its top line of 10 - $565 Mediums made $420-$480.
Angus Friesian x bulls tops $480-$510 — the latter to Four Ways Farm 18 at $510. The heifer section was by far the hardest hit due to shortage of feed and water.
Top Hereford X heifers sold for $450-$510, the latter from DJS Farming. Medium Hereford heifers at $350-$400 were back the most price-wise from the previous sale.
A top line of Angus X heifers made $515 from Four Ways Farm. The sale yarded 896 weaners which was up on last sale due to conditions as clients destock. Sale prices were very similar to North Island sales from the past week.
Next sale is Tuesday, January 9.
