Green Party co-leader James Shaw spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay today about Metiria Turei's confession that she committed benefit fraud as a solo mother in the 1990s.
Shaw says Turei's announcement was pre-planned and the party knew it was a risk but it was one they were prepared to take as a way to start a conversation about poverty.
Jamie and James also talk about whether Winston Peters and Metiria Turei would get along and what Shaw thinks about the demise of the Ruataniwha Dam project.
