On Saturday, hundreds of children from all over Taranaki enjoyed a very special party at the TSB Stadium in New Plymouth.
It was the annual Sky TV Special Children's extravaganza in association with NZME, and thanks to the support of plenty of local businesses, the youngsters were able to enjoy a great day out.
It wasn't just the children having fun though, parents Loren and Piers Duncan said the party was great for the adults too.
"Having a child with specific needs makes everyday outings hard at times. This party has been great as everyone here is accepting of the children and their individual needs," said Piers.
Loren said their son, Odin, 7, has been to the party once before.
"It's a pretty big event, and he has really enjoyed it."
Odin, who is on the autistic spectrum as well as having ADHD, said he was enjoying the party.
"I liked the mini basketball hopes best."
Natasha Hermanns was also at the party with her daughter Mia-Rose, 4. Natasha said Mia-Rose was enjoying the day and it was a great opportunity for her to have some one-on-one time with her mum.
"She has a twin sister as well as an older one, so this has been really special to do something just with her."
Mia-Rose has cochlear implants as well as hydrocephalus, but wasn't letting anything stop her from having plenty of fun at the party. She was particularly taken with the large stuffed penguin she received as a present on the day.
Dad Jesse Ebsworthy was at the party with his 5-year-old son Adam who has a physical disability.
"We came in a bus from Whanganui for the party, and he has had a great time.
"Adam liked the soft toy the most straight away, but I think when we get home, he will be playing with the cars more."
Jesse said the party was great as it gave him and Adam the chance to enjoy lots of activities that would normally be hard for the youngster.
"Everyone here is sympathetic to his needs and things have been adapted for kids like him. He loves the presents of course, but I think for him, it is the fact he doesn't feel different today, he feels like everyone else."
Asked if he had anything to say to the local businesses and sponsors who help make sure the day is a success, Jesse was quick to answer.
"Thank you. Every thing has been amazing, and seeing Adam smile so much today shows how much fun he has had. Your generosity has put smiles on lots of kids' faces and you've really made a difference to their lives."
