'To promote and foster pride in Eltham and District by assisting and facilitating the beautification, enhancement and development of community facilities and amenities for the greater public benefit.'
That's the mission statement of the Eltham Community Development Group.
Secretary Maree Liddington says while the mission statement may sound grand, it is really simply a case of working to make Eltham a better place to live, work and play in.
The group's past projects include the Heritage murals around the town, the Arty Loos, the Stark Park development and Soldiers Park walkway.
Branding of the town is high on the list of projects, and Maree says the group has identified cheese and Lake Rotokare Scenic Reserve as noteworthy features of the district.
The group also hopes to produce new maps and flyers for Eltham to give to visitors and new residents.
Future projects include stage two of an upgrade to Bridger Park and further development of Taumata Park.
Maree says the group is made up of locals who are passionate about seeing Eltham grow and develop, plus representatives of the Community Board, Council and local groups.
"We always need more members, and invite interested people to our upcoming AGM.
"Being part of this group doesn't mean you get enlisted on working bees, so don't worry.
"We need your ideas and enthusiasm."
