St Patrick's School students in Kaponga are upset that vandals have cut up ropes in their playground, making it too unsafe to play on.
School principal Sue Harrison says over the last year, the playground's swing ropes and a cargo net have been repeatedly cut, making that part of the playground unsafe.
The vandals kept coming back, slicing more of the rope each time.
"We purchased expensive good quality ropes and a large cargo net to help build upper body strength for our students while they are having fun at the same time. This is not happening at the moment as the vandalism has escalated to the point that the cargo net and some ropes are now unsafe and cannot be used."
The cargo net was valued at around $800 and because St Patrick's School was small, the cost of on-going repairs meant some funding was not being used as it could be.
"Directing money to fix vandalism is disappointing but also the fact that we have young children, unsupervised, in our school grounds doing this damage is a concern."
Sue says the fact that the fact there were young children or teenagers with knives posed a danger to the community.
"We have always accepted people other than those who attend our school use our playground after school hours.
"Sadly, this is going to be stopped as far as possible due to on-going vandalism.
"We are involved in neighbourhood watch and appreciate the attention of our neighbours."
* Kaponga residents are being asked to keep a look out for the vandals by police.
