It was time for students to question the media and their MP when some Year 9 Stratford High School students met Chester Borrows and television political journalist Katy Bradford in the Beehive Theatrette at Parliament recently.
Chester Borrows told the group the media are responsible for what the public think of their politicians and both politicians and journalists were on the job for similar reasons - to help people and make a difference. Katy Bradford told them that in 12 years as a print, radio and now television journalist she still really enjoys the daily challenges. She explained a 90 second piece on the evening news bulletin could take up to a day to gather and edit. Responding to a question, Chester said his political aspirations emerged while he was a serving South Taranaki police officer while Katy said she had made her career choice before she went to secondary school.
