Celebrating ageing

The International Day of the Older Person was celebrated in style by the Stratford Positive Ageing Group with a concert and light lunch for an appreciative audience.

Roger Hignett, chairperson of the group, says it was great to see so many come out and enjoy a fun morning of entertainment and fellowship.

He was particularly pleased to see Linda Wiggins attending.

"Having just celebrated her 108th birthday I doubt there are many older than her in Stratford or even in New Zealand. She is a remarkable woman and certainly is proof that age doesn't stop you getting out and enjoying yourself."

Before a light lunch was served, attendees enjoyed a range of performances, ranging from choral pieces by Stratford Singers, an amusing solo by John Sextus, a monologue reminiscing about "the good old days" by Maureen Armstrong and a duologue performed by Sheila Boyes and Gloria Webby.

Guest performers for the day where some of the students from Studio 2 who, along with their teachers Hayley Old and Becky Walsh, danced the can-can and a cabaret piece to All That Jazz.

Videos from some of the performances can be viewed on the Stratford Press Facebook page.
