An Australian runner has won this morning's Auckland marathon, and an Aucklander came second.
Matt Davy from Victoria crossed the finish line at Victoria Park in a time of 2 hours 24 minutes.
Lead car commentator Hamish Meachem says Josh Maisey from Auckland was behind by over two minutes at halfway but closed the gap to finish just seconds behind Matt Davy.
He says in the final couple of hundred metres it was down to within a second or so.
Hamish Meachem says it was a fantastic finish but the Aussie held off the Kiwi to take out the victory.
Canadian Blair McWhirter finished third.
Hannah Oldroyd has won the women's marathon.
Leah Fitzgerald finished second.
Fourteen thousand runners are taking place in the entire event, which includes the marathon, half-marathon and runs of 12 and 5ks, as well as a 2.2k kids marathon.
The first athletes set off from Devonport at 6am.
Cool conditions and an overcast sky combined to produce perfect conditions for the race.
