Two Rotorua fashion designers have partnered with Destination Rotorua to show off the city's culture to international trade delegates at an event in Sydney.
Kharl Wirepa and Mereana Ngatai left for Australia yesterday.
"We will be providing a world-class showcase of Rotorua fashion," Mr Wirepa said.
In the past Destination Rotorua has flown kapa haka groups and other Rotorua cultural groups to Australia - this is the first time a fashion show has gone over.
He said they would be showing their collections at Doltone House in Sydney.
Mr Wirepa said his collection was called Jackie O and was inspired by the former First Lady of the United States.
"This season, especially with the Miss Rotorua competition, we were after happy colours, elegance and grace."
"This opportunity is astounding. Thank you to the Destination Rotorua team."
He said the trip would be business only, "no time to relax, just work".
"We have had so much support from the indigenous and Pacific community in Australia with booking models and hair and makeup."
Ms Ngatai said she was really looking forward to their trip.
"It's hard work, but it's good work," she said.
"We are working hard to make sure we put our best foot forward."
Each designer will be showing 10 pieces on the catwalk.
"We are going over to promote the creative talent we have here in Rotorua," Ms Ngatai said.
"I'm going to present Rotorua, our business and our culture but also my own collection."
