A motorcyclist has died after a two-vehicle crash near Te Puke.
A police communication spokeswoman said fire, police and ambulance personnel were at the scene after a collision between the motorcyclist and a car on Rangiuru Road, which is about 13 kilometres long.
The crash site was between Malcolm Avenue and Brown Rd
The motorcyclist died at the scene after emergency services arrived, the spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman said the first 111 call was received about 7pm and Rangiuru Rd was closed to motorists from the intersection of Browns Rd.
Road diversions were in place, including traffic being diverted down Te Matai Rd.
A Rangiuru Road resident, who did not want to be identified, came across the crash site on her way home before emergency services had arrived.
She was stopped by a man who had told her there had been "a bad accident".
The man discouraged the resident from driving closer any as they were about 200 metres from the crash site, she said. She could only see flashing lights, she said.
Within a few minutes, police and other emergency services had arrived.
The woman was unsure whether the crash victim was a local resident.
The communication spokeswoman said no further information was available at edition time.
