One person was killed after two cars collided in Whangarei this morning.
It was the third fatal crash of the day after two people died in crashes in Warkworth and Otara earlier this morning.
Police said two cars collided on the Western Hills Drive stretch of State Highway 1 in the Whangarei suburb of Kensington about 7.40am.

Northland police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said one person died in the crash.
A second person was believed to have suffered minor injuries.
Diversions were in place at Percy St and Kensington Ave, with traffic being diverted onto Kamo Rd.
Police have advised motorists to avoid the area if possible, as the road was expected to be closed for some time.
The crash comes after a car smashed into a house in south Auckland this morning, killing a man and leaving two other people with serious injuries.
The house collapsed onto the car after it crashed near the intersection of Alexander Cres and Franklyne Rd in Otara about 4.20am.
Earlier, a vehicle crashed into a tree, killing its sole occupant, on State Highway 1 near Valerie Close, south of Warkworth, about 3am.
