Almost 5000 young Northlanders are still not enrolled to vote, with the general election just over a month away.
About 16,500 eligible people in the Northland region were not enrolled to vote, 4700 of them aged 18-24.
Just 65 per cent of 18-24-year-olds in Northland were on the electoral roll as of July 31 - a figure that is slightly higher than the national average of just under 64 per cent.
Nearly 99 per cent of 60-65-year-olds were enrolled to vote in Whangarei and 95 per cent of the same age group in the Northland electorate.
The number of enrolled voters in Northland has increased by about 4000 since the 2014 general election.
Northland registrar of electors Melody Hicks said teams have been busy in recent weeks enrolling young people to vote.
Northland Electoral Commission youth advocates have made a video to help increase the numbers of youth enrolled.
The video was made by youth for youth and explained why it was important for young people to enrol and vote. The video, which was produced by Channel North, and accompanying song will be shown around Northland, including at schools, youth workshops and gatherings.
The number of voters enrolled in the Maori electorate of Te Tai Tokerau fell after voting packs were sent out, from 34,500 to 33,926.
Enrolment packs were sent out in the last week of June.
"If you haven't received an enrolment update pack it means you aren't correctly enrolled or need to update your details," chief electoral officer Alicia Wright said.
"Every year thousands of voters are removed from the electoral roll because they've changed address but haven't updated their details with us. So if you've moved house, you need to make sure you're enrolled at the right address. Those voters need to get back on the roll now so their vote will count this election."
The percentage of eligible voters enrolled is higher than the national average in the Whangarei electorate, at just under 90 per cent.
In the Northland electorate, however, enrolment is comparatively low at 85.8 per cent.
Voter enrolment would be possible until midnight on September 22, the day before the general election. Voters enrolled by August 23 would receive an Easy Vote card in September to make voting quicker.
People could enrol, check and update their details at www.elections.org.nz, pick up an enrolment form at a PostShop, call 0800 36 76 56 or text their name and address to 3676 for a form.
Voting starts on September 11 when advance voting places are due to open and will run until election day on September 23.
