Northlanders can be a part of India's 70th independence celebration at an event in Whangarei this weekend.
The Northland Indian Association is organising the meet and greet at NorthTec on Saturday and people from all religions, cultures, and nationalities are invited to attend.
Games and music are in store and those attending are requested to bring a plate, preferably finger food, and to dress in orange, white or green - the colours of India's flag.
The event will start with the Indian national anthem about 4.30pm before association president Ralph Correa welcomes those present and speaks about the significance of the occasion.
Association member Sakshi Vij Sekhon said about 100 people were expected on Saturday to experience the diversity of Indian culture through a variety of mediums, such as food and entertainment.
The association's next public event will be Diwali to be celebrated in Whangarei on October 1.
Saturday's independence day celebration will be held between 4pm and 7.30pm at NorthTec's Apprentice Restaurant.
India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947 and became a republic in January 1950.
