A man on the run in Northland has been taken into custody following police negotiations with his family.
The 26-year-old, who had warrants out for his arrest, ran from a vehicle after it crashed off State Highway 10, near Pakaraka, about 3.40pm yesterday.
A police helicopter was called to help with the search along with police and a dog handler.
They were unable to find the man and today resumed the search.
Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnston said information was passed from locals and police were able to negotiate with members of the man's family.
He was taken by family in a car to meet police on Hupara Rd, not far from where he was last seen, and was taken into police custody.
The Armed Offenders Squad were present at the hand over.
Mr Johnston said the man was taken into custody calmly and had been taken to Kaikohe Police station to be interviewed.
Following the crash yesterday, police searched the vehicle and discovered a number of firearms.
A 31-year-old male passenger was arrested at the scene and enquiries were ongoing. No charges had yet been laid.
