Two people have been arrested and a significant amount of stolen property recovered following a search warrant in Marewa yesterday afternoon.
The Armed Offenders Squad assisted with the warrant at 2.45pm.
Overall 14 firearms, cannabis, three motorcross bikes, motorcross clothing and equipment, dive gear, tools and property stolen from trailers were recovered.
The majority of the firearms and the motorbikes were stolen during a Napier burglary the day before.
A 34-year-old Napier man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and cultivating cannabis and was due to appear in the Hastings District Court on 24 February.
A 25-year-old woman was arrested on outstanding warrants and was also due to appear in the Hastings District Court tomorrow.
Eastern District Deployment Coordinator Senior Sergeant Mike Stevenson said police were pleased to recover this stolen property, particularly the firearms, so quickly.
"The good work of Hawke's Bay Police staff has prevented these firearms being disturbed into the hands of other criminals and being used in further offending."
"Burglary is a serious crime and Police really feel for the members of our community who are victims of this offending as we know all too well the effect it has on them."
While our preference would be to prevent a burglary happening in the first place it is always good to be able to return stolen property and hold those involved to account."
