The Hawke's Bay arm of global charitable aid group Rapid Relief Team has entered the spirit of Christmas by announcing last night it has 500 bottles of water in the pipeline for the Christmas Cheer Appeal.
Regional co-ordinator Andrew Taylor expects to deliver the 300ml bottles on Monday, saying it's in keeping with the philosophies of helping provide healthy food and also showing care and compassion to those in need.
The organisation is involved in significant volunteer catering, which has included feeding firefighters during major incidents and other emergency-related operations.
"We always keep two or three pallets on hand just in case," he said. "People are conscious of making sure they are drinking healthy water at the moment. We are as well. This is one way we can help those who are in need, and keep it healthy."
Further donations include more than $1400 in cash, including proceeds from Maraenui women's golf events and a mufti day at Havelock North Primary School, taking the fund to almost $9000
