The Hastings Host Lions Club Book Sale saw tens of thousands of books, magazines, DVDs and music on offer at this year's annual event.
In its 29th year, 2500 people had a browse at the extensive selection and raised a large amount of money for different community causes.
Hastings Host Lions Club Book Sale convener, Alan Harvey, said it had been a very successful weekend.
The total takings for the weekend were $34,000, which they were "pleased with as it was an increase on last year."
"It really is a whole-year process. We started receiving books earlier this year and were sorting from March onwards, with regular sorting sessions."
Despite having some leftover goods, thousands of books had been sold and they were going to recycle some and store the rest for next year's sale.
"We donated six fruit bins worth of left over children's books from the sale to the Greenmeadows Rotary Club, who send it to schools in Papua New Guinea," Mr Harvey said.
They relied on the public to donate the books and other material and had 50 volunteers help throughout the year.
Categories included, hobby books, text books, novels, paperback, New Zealand and children's books.
"We want to thank the public for coming along and supporting us and our charitable causes. Lions Club members also contributed a large amount of volunteer work to assist with the project."
