The spate of thefts and rural burglaries in Central Hawke's Bay is continuing.
Police said thousands of dollars of equipment was stolen after thieves broke into a shipping container owned by contractors Fulton Hogan at Gwavas Station on SH5, sometime between August 12-13.
Thieves made off with a Flexi-drive pump and leads, a sub pump and a 5KVa generator with a combined value of $4350, police said.
In another incident, police said 75 litres of aviation fuel was siphoned from a plane parked in the hangar at the aero club on Takapau Rd sometime between August 11-13.
A portable shearing plant was also stolen from a woolshed in Mill St, Ongaonga around August 11. CHB police have arrested a 20-year-old male wanted over the burglary of a Whites Rd farm property earlier this month. He was remanded in custody to appear in Hastings district court.
CHB police were involved in a pursuit south along SH2 toward Dannevirke on August 11 after a vehicle failed to stop. A police spokesman said the driver of the fleeing vehicle eventually lost control as he exited the bridge at Matamau, and narrowly missed hitting the Armco barriers.
The 15-year-old driver and two passengers aged 15 and 18, all from Levin, were arrested by police from Waipukurau and Dannevirke, who had travelled north to intercept the vehicle. The three were transported back to Levin by police.
The spokesman said the reason given by the juvenile driver for not stopping was that he did not want to have his car impounded, as he had bought it that day.
On August 13, CHB police arrested a 51-year-old man under the Mental Health Act after he alarmed neighbours by trying to get onto their house carrying an air rifle. He was later discharged by the mental health unit.
