Police have heard from a man believed to have been missing in the Wairoa River last Sunday.
A motorist was believed to have gone missing in the early hours of Sunday morning near the Wairoa River after failing to stop for police.
Sergeant Greg Lexmond said police are satisfied that the motorist believed to have been missing is alive and well.
A man abandoned his vehicle after failing to pull over when signalled and police spent several days searching the Wairoa River but did not locate him.
However, they have spoken to several associates who have seen or spoken with him since Sunday.
Police would still like to speak to this man and ask he contact his local police station, Sergeant Lexmond said.
"Police and the man's family have put significant resource into locating him and his failure to make contact is disappointing."
Anyone with information on the man's whereabouts is asked to make contact with police or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 111 555.
