A fun combination of tenpin bowling and kite flying kept about 70 youngsters from Camp Quality busy and entertained yesterday.
Camp Quality, being run in Hawke's Bay this week, aims to bring happiness to children living with cancer.
Yesterday's activities included a visit to Superstrike Tenpin Bowling in Hastings and kite making and flying with expert assistance from members of the Hawkes Bay Kite Flyers Association.
Yesterday's windy weather provided perfect conditions for campers to get the most out of flying the kites they made themselves and others provided by the association.
Today brings a special treat with the youngsters scheduled to meet members of the Black Caps who are in Hawke's Bay for Sunday's one day international against India.
The camp - one of five held around the country in consecutive weeks - is organised by a non-profit organisation. Each youngster taking part is accompanied by an adult companion.
"Not only do the companions volunteer for the week but each camp is organised by approximately 20 'staff' who also volunteer for the week, as well as throughout the year, fundraising and planning for the next camp" said spokeswoman Trish Fryer.
"Fundraising is always the challenging part so we are always looking for opportunities to fundraise, secure sponsorship or receive donations," she said.
