The 2017 INBA (International Natural Body Building Association) and Fit Figures Natural National champs held at Hamilton Girls High School, was the first ever Nationals for drug free and drug tested athletes.
Having national titles was something Brian McFarlane, body coach from Fit Figures gym was passionate about having for his clients and other contestants.
"For too long natural athletes are not getting the recognition they deserve.
"Rota Elliot and Jan Dixon have been long time champions in the natural bodybuilding World and it was only fitting that they won the overall Mr and Ms INBA Natural New Zealand titles.
"I want to continue this event each year so it gives natural athletes a credible title for drug free athletes to aspire too.
Brian says the general public are getting fooled these days with regards to what good natural athletes look like, as they are bombarded with images of athletes that aren't drug free and certainly not drug tested.
He also hopes this goes some way in building a close relationship with Drug Free Sport New Zealand in the future as natural bodybuilders embrace the values of them, as testing is to be carried out with labs from outside of New Zealand.
INBA usually only has competitions in Auckland, Taupo and Queenstown through the year.
Jan Dixon was the overall winner taking out the Ms INBA Natural New Zealand title.
"I've been competing for 12 years.
"I've previously won quite a few competitions but in this competition I won the Open Women's Body Building and the overall Women's Body Building.
"Next up on the agenda is the PNBA/INBA Natural Olympia in Las Vegas this Friday 10th November, it's the world's biggest natural body building competition and I'm flying out for that today," said Ms Dixon.
