C.S. Lewis's enchanting world of Narnia is in Hamilton for the first week of the school holidays.
Stories and More theatre company is staging The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe at The Meteor Theatre, a classic story loved by children and adults.
Local adult performers will share the stage with students of Stories and More's drama school, with special features including a set painted by local artist Stephanie Mclellan and original music written especially for the production by Ben Powell.
The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe is a play that Stories and More founder Cecilia Mooney has been keen to stage for some time, and she is excited to finally be bringing it to The Meteor stage.
"This is a classic show loved by adults and children, and I am excited to bring the enchanting world of Narnia to life."
It took Cecilia some time to assemble the right cast, and scheduling rehearsals has been a challenge, due to many of the adult actors appearing in other productions over the past few months.
Cecilia is happy with the final product though and "can't wait to get our first audience in and share their reactions".
It is traditional for Mooney's company Stories and More's annual Meteor production to have a few surprises in store for the audience as well, and she recommends The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe for those aged five and over. She hopes that parents will take advantage of the matinees and early evening starts to make this a family event for the holidays.
"Stories and More was set up with the express purpose of producing theatre for young audiences and to make theatre accessible for as many families as possible," she said. Ticket prices start at $8 for children.
The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe is on from September 24 until October 2, and performances are two hours including interval. Tickets can be pre-booked at www.iticket.co.nz, where there is more information about the season. Door sales are open half an hour before each performance when available.
