A local lingerie shop is providing support for Tauranga locals in more ways than one.
Temptations Lingerie and Swim Wear on Mount Mainstreet has collected six large boxes of food and groceries for the Tauranga Community Foodbank.
During August, customers were encouraged to drop off two non-perishable items.
"It was a good promotion, a win-win for both sides. The customer was getting their product at 20 per cent off and the foodbank's getting something in return," owner Sue Harding said.
"I always hear about the foodbank, and I always hear how desperate they are. And everybody at Christmas time seems to rally around, and I thought, well, it's mid-winter."
She encouraged other businesses to do something similar and said she might start doing it every year.
"I just think that everybody should get behind and help the people that are less privileged than us."
Harding was surprised by how much was donated and said her customers thought it was a wonderful idea.
"I think the community all just wanted to help."
A "very grateful" foodbank manager Nicki Goodwin met Harding when she delivered the food this week.
"What a lovely lady, she was super generous to offer a discount on her lingerie in support of foodbank. She had a whole wagon load of food and grocery items."
