Public views are being sought on four options for fixing one of the most dangerous intersections for motorists travelling to Hamilton from Tauranga.
A new $100 million four-lane expressway bypassing Lake Karapiro was announced in May this year.
The bypass will connect the end of the Waikato Expressway to State Highway 29 at Piarere, about 2km from the notorious T-intersection of SH29 and SH1, the scene of many fatal crashes.
The options generally follow the existing SH1 route from the southern end of the Waikato Expressway through to Karapiro Road.
After Karapiro Road most of the options were located away from the existing SH1, before narrowing down to two options at Piarere.
Chris Gasson of the New Zealand Transport Agency said the shortlist was created through "extensive investigations and consultation".
"This project affects many people who live, work, do business or travel on this key route through the Waikato.
"We have been meeting with landowners, stakeholders and the wider community throughout the process, but we have reached a stage again where we need to know if we have missed anything, so come along to the information day to talk to us and provide your feedback," Mr Gasson said.
