October is a busy month for one Papamoa family, as they prepare to have more than 1000 spooky kids knocking on their door.
Halloween is a big deal to the Van Wyk family - they decorate their home in mostly handmade scary decorations and prepare more than 1000 bags of lollies to dish out on October 31.
For the past seven years, Anneke, her husband, Johan, and their son, Andrew, have transformed their property into a Halloween work of art.
Anneke Van Wyk said it is important for her and her family to give back to the community.
"We do it for the kids, to make them smile."
The legendary display changes every year with most of the decorations being handmade by the Van Wyks.
The entire property on Golden Sands Dr gets a spine-chilling makeover which last year featured a creepy "zombie zone" with a graveyard in the front garden and a mini man-made beach with a skeleton band performing.
Last year the family had 800 individual bags of lollies to hand out to trick or treaters but had run out after two hours of opening their doors.
This year Mrs Van Wyk is expecting "much, much more" kids to come and enjoy the family's display.
"We are preparing 1000-1500 bags of lollies this year."
Mrs Van Wyk said preparations for Halloween take approximately a month to craft the homemade decorations and prepare enough lollies.
Every year the decorations and the theme changes and Mrs Van Wyk said this year will be "a bit of a surprise".
