There will be an emergency water shutdown for the whole of the Omokoroa Peninsula tonight as council workers fix a broken pipe fitting.
A post on Western Bay of Plenty District Council's Facebook page said water would be cut off from 9.30am-10.30pm.
"After the water is turned back on, there may be low water pressure until 11.30pm."
Western Bay of Plenty District Council spokesman Frank Begley said there was a broken fitting on a tapping band of one of the pipes that needed to be replaced.
"In order to do that they had to turn the mains off," he said.
Mr Begley said it was part of a routine repair.
"It was something that needed to happen and it needed to happen quickly before things got worse," he said.
"These things happen from time to time."
Mr Begley estimated there would be about 1000 homes affected.
