There may be delays on some Tauranga bus routes today as some bus drivers strike.
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council warned of potential disruptions to Bayhopper buses on six routes between 9am and midday.
The strike action was being taken by some drivers employed by Go Bus Transport Limited, which the council contracted to provide the Bayhopper service.
The council said the strike would not disrupt the Schoolhopper service or the peak hour commute.
A statement put out by First Union, which represented the drivers, said around 30 drivers would attend a stop work meeting with the union between 9am and 11am.
Eleven of the 30 drivers were rostered to work at the time of the meeting and had voted to take strike action to attend.
The union blamed Go Bus for any service disruptions, saying the company had three weeks' notice of the strike.
"It's a shame the company wouldn't work with us to allow members to attend these once yearly meetings," Bus Drivers First spokesperson Rudd Hughes said.
The company and union are in wage negotiations.
Darryl Bellamy of Go Bus declined an opportunity to comment on the union's claims.
