Private school ACG Tauranga opened a three-level gym and sports complex today.
The gym is located at the heart of the school's 14.8 hectare campus in Pyes Pa and overlooks the sports fields with covered viewing areas providing seating for up to 500 people.
It would provide space for assemblies and school productions, as well as lunch-time and after-school clubs and activities.
ACG Tauranga would also make the new facility available for inter-school sports and for cultural and community events.
Principal Shawn Hutchinson said the school had a strong academic focus but recognised there was more to education that study.
"This new sports complex reflects our awareness of the need to ensure that sports and recreational opportunities are also well catered for."
He said the building was a significant investment into building an exceptional private school environment for the people of Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty.
The new complex was opened by Bay of Plenty MP Todd Muller, who described it as a state-of-the-art facility that would contribute significantly to the Bay of Plenty's sporting, cultural and community needs now and in the years to come.
"This isn't just a high-quality asset for the school, but for the wider community, who will help ensure it is used to its full potential, and this can only be good for our growing city," said Mr Muller.
