Fire crews are battling a blaze in a pine plantation west of Auckland.

Five fire trucks rushed to the scene on Township Road in Waitakere around 10.45 this morning to tackle the fire.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern region shift manager Megan Ruru said the fire was spanning an area around 50 by 70 metres in a pine plantation.

The fire was not currently posing any danger to buildings or people nearby, she said.

"It is a rural area, there are some farms in the area but I don't believe any of them are currently at risk."
