A large slip has closed Scenic Drive in Auckland's Waitakere Ranges, just south of the intersection with West Coast Rd.
The winding west Auckland road will remain closed overnight, with contractors to assess the situation in the morning.
Drivers are asked to be careful and look for detours. The road closure starts at the Arataki Visitor Centre.
It's just a month since another slip closed Scenic Drive, with heavy rain sending tonnes of rubble and trees down across the road on August 30.
Tonight's slip comes as wild weather is set to hit the city with wind gusts over 120km/h expected to batter Auckland from 10pm.
Winds up to 100km/h have already been measured on the Harbour Bridge, with the NZTA urging drivers to use "extreme caution" when crossing the bridge.
The worst of the weather is expected to ease by dawn.
