Police will take a zero tolerance approach to alcohol-related disorder in Auckland City this weekend.

Operation Relentless will focus on preventing alcohol-related crime on Saturday and will concentrate on recognised areas within Auckland City, including Mission Bay and Ponsonby, where alcohol-fuelled crime can escalate.

More than 70 Police and partner agency staff will be involved in Operation Relentless.

This is part of Auckland City Police District's ongoing strategy to prevent alcohol-related offending, and protect those who become victims of it.

"Our message is very clear: If you're coming into the city over this period and intend to frequent the city's many bars, restaurants and clubs, then drink responsibly and keep yourself and your mates safe," says Youth and Communities Manager, Inspector Mark Benefield.

Police will also conduct road checkpoints to focus on alcohol-related harm and offending.

"There will be zero tolerance on breaches of the alcohol ban.
Retailers and licensees will also be reminded of their obligations with alcohol, especially around intoxication and minors," says Inspector Benefield.

"This is a prevention operation. We consistently encourage members of the public to contact us if they are concerned about the behaviour of people in their communities."

"If someone's behaving suspiciously, being disorderly, drinking in alcohol ban areas or when they are clearly underage, we want to hear about it."

Members of the public can contact the Auckland Central Police Station on 09 302 6400 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
