Power was cut to about 900 homes in Mt Eden during tonight's Bledisloe Test between the All Blacks and Australia.

The outage hit about 8pm after a transformer on Sandringham Rd lost power.

Vector spokeswoman Sandy Hodge said crews were still on their way and it was unclear what caused the outage.

"Eden Park is secure, it's on a separate grid and will never be affected," she said.

Power was restored to all but 288 homes about 30 minutes later and is expected to be fully restored by 9.30pm.
